The Meaning of "Namaste"

I've decided to write my first blog post at the end, the end of every post from here on out: Namaste.

Namaste (na-ma-stay) is derived from sanskrit and literally translates as, "I bow to you." It is used in many parts of India and Nepal, generally as a greeting from one person to another, as a sign of appreciation and gratitude.

Namaste has a deeper meaning though, and this is the meaning I choose to give each time I say (or type) the word:

"I bow to the light in you, which is also in me. When you and I are in that place, we are one."

It is a reminder to myself, and to those I come into contact with, that although we are all different on the outside (and I happen to find the diversity of humanity a very beautiful thing!), we all come from the same place and long for the same thing: to love and be loved.

So, until next time, namaste :)
